We are so grateful to Cape Town City Toyota for sponsoring us with a brand-new Hilux for another season of marine animal rescues. Your support helps us respond quickly along the Overstrand Coast — from Pringle Bay to Agulhas — and care for critically endangered African Penguins, and so many seabirds and marine creatures in need.

Just this past Friday evening, another critically endangered African Penguin was rescued by an alert Onrus resident at the launching spot. Its leg was injured, and thanks to their quick thinking and our response team, Xolani Lawo and dedicated APSS volunteer who lives in Hermanus, Gerhard van der Merwe, it was safely transported to the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary (APSS) for emergency care. It will now be treated, rehabilitated, and released back to the wild — giving it every chance to survive, thrive, and one day breed in Walker Bay or Dyer Island.

Remember: If you see a penguin or seabird in trouble, call the APSS Rescue Line: 072 598 7117. Do not try to capture wildlife yourself — looks can be deceiving!
And a huge congratulations to Cape Town City Toyota for being nominated for Environmental Deal of the Year — a well-deserved recognition for your incredible commitment to conservation.
Together, we are making a real difference for our endangered wildlife!
