We arrived at our destination. The camp looked way amazing for the kid’s expectations. We were greeted by the friendly staff of Wortelgat Outreach Trust.
At the end of each year, learners go on an educational camp. The learners from the second and third year attended an educational camp at Wortelgat in Stanford, where they spent the weekend learning about dedication, responsibility, teamwork and trust. Camping enables us to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life but for the Dyer Island Conservation Trust Environmental Education Programme known as DEEP, it was more than just a slower pace but an adrenaline rush, immersing themselves in nature. The weekend included a fun-filled day of activities on Saturday and Sunday – Obstacle games, nature walks, environmental quizzes, war cry, a trust walk, stumbling blocks, spider webs. The kids are grateful for the memories.
Educator Pinkey Ngewu said, “Environmental Education promotes critical and creative thinking skills and inspires kids to become engaged with their communities by providing them with the building blocks they need to live in harmony with nature. This camp was a lifetime experience for them.”
We would like to thank our sponsors PlasLantic, Taurus Cape Kelp, The Rolf Stephan Nussbaum Foundation, The Joan St Leger Lindbergh Charitable Trust for the camp. Without your continuous support, the programme wouldn’t have been a success.
