The 2025 CapeNature Conservation Review gathered conservation leaders, researchers, and stakeholders for two days of vital discussions on the state of conservation in the Western Cape. This annual review is an important platform where CapeNature — the public institution entrusted with managing the province’s protected areas and biodiversity — shares updates on challenges like invasive species, fire, habitat loss, marine poaching, and climate change, while showcasing solutions driven by partnerships, research, compliance, and community engagement.
Wilfred Chivell, CEO of Marine Dynamics and Founder of the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, was honoured to attend both days and contribute to two panel discussions.
In Segment 3: The Value of Credible Brands and Partnerships in Building Resilience, the focus was on how trusted conservation brands and strong partnerships can strengthen ecological sustainability and community well-being.
In Segment 7: Protecting Our Oceans — A Shared Responsibility, Wilfred presented the critical work being done around Dyer Island — from protecting the critically endangered African Penguin to tackling poaching, driving responsible eco-tourism, and nurturing the next generation of ocean ambassadors.
Our enduring partnership with CapeNature is at the heart of these successes. Together — through joint conservation projects, island surveillance, penguin nest monitoring, marine permitting, and environmental education — we help protect biodiversity and build healthy marine and coastal ecosystems for generations to come.
