On Saturday, 20 September 2025, the shores of Gansbaai came alive with the sound of teamwork, determination, and community pride as we joined millions around the world for the International Coastal Clean-Up 2025. This year’s theme, “Clean Seas Against the Climate Crisis,” reminds us that every piece of waste collected is a step towards protecting our oceans and addressing the global climate challenge.

Hosted at the Gansbaai Caravan Park, the event brought together passionate volunteers alongside 110 children from the Dyer Island Conservation Trust Environmental Education Programme and the local community. Young and old worked side by side, bags and gloves in hand, united by a shared commitment to safeguard our marine environment.

And the results speak for themselves:
👉 390 kilograms of waste removed from the coastline in just one afternoon.

This achievement is a testament to the power of community action. The children from DEEP not only learned about the urgent need to reduce pollution but also actively contributed to making their environment healthier for wildlife, people, and future generations.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Overberg District Municipality and Marine Dynamics for their invaluable support in making this clean-up possible. Together, with every volunteer who joined, we proved that collective action can create meaningful change.
The Dyer Island Conservation Trust in partnership with Marine Dynamics are proud to be part of this global movement to combat marine pollution. Our work does not stop here – the journey towards cleaner seas continues every day, and each of us has a role to play.
Let’s keep the momentum going: reduce, reuse, recycle, and remember that our oceans are the lifeblood of our planet.
